Is Flossing Important?

Why Is Flossing Important?

Flossing is crucial for maintaining good oral health. Here's why:

Teeth and Gum Care

Removes plaque

Flossing reaches areas between teeth that a toothbrush can't, dislodging plaque and food particles that can lead to cavities and gum disease.

Plaque can cause gingivitis, an inflammation of the gums. Gingivitis is preventable and reversible by brushing and flossing.

Disease Prevention

Prevents gum disease

Plaque buildup can irritate the gums, causing gingivitis (inflammation) and potentially progressing to periodontitis (a more severe form of gum disease).

Reduces the risk of bad breath

Bacteria trapped between teeth can contribute to bad breath. Flossing helps eliminate these bacteria.

Supports overall health

Studies suggest that poor oral health may be linked to other health problems, such as heart disease and diabetes.

It's recommended to floss once a day, preferably before bed. If you find it difficult to floss regularly, consider using a dental pick or interdental brush as alternatives. Consult with your dentist for personalized advice.
